7th Period- Treasure of Lemon Brown

Now that we have finished reading the short story, you are going to begin an online discussion about it.  For this post, pick only  ONE question to answer (in 5 or more sentences).
Here are your options:
  • Now that we have read about Lemon's treasure, has your definition of the word "treasure" changed or stayed the same? Why?
  • In your opinion, does Lemon have good reason to sing the blues over his life? Explain.
  • Lemon's treasure is a symbol in this story. It stands for things that have value beyond their physical attributes. What might the treasure symbolize to Lemon's son? to Lemon? to Greg?
This is a graded assignment. You must post an answer and then respond to at least two other students. If a student responds to your post, then you should respond back, and begin a dialogue. Things to remember:
  • You need to write your response in Pages first, and check your post for spelling and grammatical errors. NO TEXT LANGUAGE IS ALLOWED! CAPITALIZE THE BEGINNING OF EVERY SENTENCE! Then copy and paste it into the blog.
  • Don't forget to post your blog number every time. Also, please restate the question in your response.
  • Paragraphs must be a minimum of 5 sentences.  (If you're shooting for an A, 8 sentences).
  • Please respond respectfully to your classmates, not everyone is going to have the same opinions as you
  • Posts are anonymous. Please don't give away your identifying number, and please respect other's privacy.

I think that sucker becoming a tough kid in one way is a good thing and in a few ways a bad thing. The good thing is that sucker finally has friends. That means that he doesn’t have to be alone anymore. He finally has people to hang out wit and talk to. One bad thing is maybe these are the wrong friends. Maybe sucker will be into a lot of mischief and trouble because of the friends that he has chosen. His friend’s influences may be bad and sucker might end up doing something that he might regret that will get him into a lot of trouble. #304

The definition of treasure has stayed the same. This is because in the story Lemon Brown treasure was something important to him. So my definition of treasure is some thing important or something that is worth allot. I think Lemon does have a good reason to sing the blues all his life because the blues is about allot of things to him. The treasure symbolize to Lemon’s son because him give him things to remember where he came from. To Lemon it symbolize his son because he died. To Greg it symbolizes what a real treasure is and what is important.

i have not changed my opinion about the word treasure.I still think that the word treasure means something that is very important to you. That is what the word means to me.I think lemon brown and I think a lot alike cause his treasure was some thing that means some thing like my treasure would be.So my definition has not changed at all.To me every body opinion is important.I just think this because I fell like if some thing is a treasure that it would be very important to treasure it.

Now that I have read the story about Lemon’s treasure my definition will stay the same. Your treasure doesn’t have to be something shiny like gold. It has to mean something to you. For example Lemon’s harmonica that he gave to his son. His son kept it like a treasure he wore it with him when he was in battle, because it meant a lot to him. Everybody has a treasure, a treasure could be water ever you wanted it to be. My treasure would be my family and my pets.

Lemon Brown does have good reasons to sing the blues over his life because his wife died. His son died when the war came. He traveled around then one day he came home and there was a letter saying that Jesse got killed in war. When he read the letter it truly broke his heart. That why I think he does have reasons for singing the blues over his life.

The word “treasure” still means the same to me after reading the story “The Treasure of Lemon Brown’. I say it’s the same because the old man collected stuff and said it was treasure to him and when I collect some stuff I also say it’s treasure. “If it means alot to me though.” I also think the word “treasure” is the same because the old man also collected very cool things like the “Gold Coins”.The Gold Coins is a cool thing because you’ll proboaly never find a real “Gold Coin”....I say this is a treasure because if I was collecting something cool like that then I’ll proboaly would want no one to know where I hid my cool stuff or so no one will mess with it.....

Hey #607 I agree strongly with you. Your treasure could be anything, from something serious to something silly.

My definition about treasure has not changed. The reason why it has not changed is because i know both the definitions of treasure. When I wrote my definition for treasure I wrote both the definitions down. Both of the definitions are, 1)In can mean something really special to you that you don’t ever want to get rid of. 2)It can be a lot of money or a lot of gold. So those are my definitions of “TREASURE”

No my definition has not changed.Because lemon brown showed in the story that he cared a lot about his treasure so much he was willing to die for it.But a treasure dose not have to be worth money its something much more. It has sentimental value the harmonica was a treasure to lemon brown because he gave it to his son who died fighting in the war. Lemon brown had valued his treasure even more knowing that his son cared about it just as much as he did.So your treasure could be a necklace or a vase just about anything. And thats why my definition has not changed.

Hey #617 I kinda agree with you and kinda don't. Your right treasure is something that you think is cool, but a person could be a treasure. It doesn't just have to be an object.

hey #224i agree with you because lemon brown loved that harmonica and even more now that his son loved it to before dying in the war from #603

hey, 607 I agree with you because anything can be treasure. It can be the smallest thing and it can mean the world to you.

Hey 627, i kind of agree with you but then i don't agree with. i kind of don't agree with you because treasure doesn't just mean one thing. So when you state something you should make it specific.

Hey...#603 i agree with you about how Lemon Brown showed how much he cared about his treasure so much that he would die for it....I would maybe die if my treasure ment that much like how it ment to Lemon Brown but, I don’t think my treasure means that much to me....

Hey #617 i tottaly agree with you because i do the the same thing with the stuff i treasure i mean if i had something i really loved i wouldn't want people to mess with. from #603

My opinion has not changed because a treasure could be anything you want it to be. In the story ‘’ The Treasure Of Lemon Brown’’ the blues singer called lemon had his treasure folded up in a rag. Lemons treasure was a bent harmonica, and a few medals and ribbons. And the boy learns that anything can be his treasure. Treasure could be a person, an animal, a toy, a blanket, or even knowledge.

Thats very true #619...an i agree with what you are saying...

I think that my definition of treasure did not change. But I had two definitions instead of just one. One of my definition was pirate gold and or jewels that is a value in cost wise. My other definition was the treasure that we heard in the story that we read. It was something worth fighting for. Something that you value so much that you would risk your life for. my definition did not change but one of them just got cleared up a little better

I agree with you because i think the exact same thing. Their are different perspective of the definition, but every one dose not have to think that because we cant make people think that because we are not in control of them.

Hey 603 I agree with you cause lemon and his son always loved that harmonica even though it was busted and broken. From # 607

Now that I have read “The treasure of Lemon Brown” I do not think my definition of treasure has changed at all. The reason I say this is because to me a treasure is something that has sentimental value, just like Lemon’s treasured harmonica or my first ever painting that I made myself. Also a treasure is not or at least shouldn’t be like gold or platinum. I mean people can consider those treasures but they have money value not sentimental value. One thing a lot of people consider to be treasured is their lives.#613

My reaction to the movie was that it was very ruff back in 1963 for black people.I think that e are all equal and should be treated the same wether you are black or white.I learned that the kids had a huge roll in what changed the us when the silval rights movement was inforsed. the kids wanted to go to jail because it was d day.

The statement "a lot of people thought the kids were going to get hurt, but the reality was that we were born black in Alabama and we were going to get hurt if we didn't do something.” This means that if the black kids in Alabama did not do something about this now then their future would be the sam not a lowed to go to places or do things. They would get hurt because white people would get out of hand and might do bad things and the blacks would not be a lowed in more places.
