2nd Period- Treasure of Lemon Brown

Now that we have finished reading the short story, you are going to begin an online discussion about it.  For this post, pick only  ONE question to answer (in 5 or more sentences).
Here are your options:
  • Now that we have read about Lemon's treasure, has your definition of the word "treasure" changed or stayed the same? Why?
  • In your opinion, does Lemon have good reason to sing the blues over his life? Explain.
  • Lemon's treasure is a symbol in this story. It stands for things that have value beyond their physical attributes. What might the treasure symbolize to Lemon's son? to Lemon? to Greg?
This is a graded assignment. You must post an answer and then respond to at least two other students. If a student responds to your post, then you should respond back, and begin a dialogue. Things to remember:
  • You need to write your response in Pages first, and check your post for spelling and grammatical errors. NO TEXT LANGUAGE IS ALLOWED! CAPITALIZE THE BEGINNING OF EVERY SENTENCE! Then copy and paste it into the blog.
  • Don't forget to post your blog number every time. Also, please restate the question in your response.
  • Paragraphs must be a minimum of 5 sentences.  (If you're shooting for an A, 8 sentences).
  • Please respond respectfully to your classmates, not everyone is going to have the same opinions as you
  • Posts are anonymous. Please don't give away your identifying number, and please respect other's privacy.

Now that I have read Lemon’s Treasure my definition of treasure has stayed the same. I believe treasure is something that is very important to you. Something you wouldn’t give up for anything else. I think Lemon’s treasure fits my definition of treasure. Lemon’s treasure is something that is very important to him.

After reading Treasure of Lemon Brown my opinion of treasure has stayed the same. My treasure is a picture of my aunty, she has cancer in her knee and well she moved away from Englewood, Colorado so she could live in California. I love her and Miss her very much. I treasure that because i miss her and because she was the best aunt any body could possibly have.

I think that Lemon does have a good reason to sing the blues over his life. One of the reasons, is that he is homeless. He is also covered with rags. He lost his singing career too. He really deserves to sing blues over his life

My answer for treasure has not changed because, it’s something that matters a lot to you. Like for instants the harmonica was his and then he gave it to his son but then, his son passed away at the war so when the harmonica was all that was left of his son he treasured it. So now that his son has passed away that is his treasure and that’s what i said it was, was that it matters a lot to to you and it’s very important to you. If that’s what was left of his son and that’s all that he can remember him by then that’s why he keeps it close to him and doesn’t let any one that wants it to see. Then they might steal it.

I believe that Lemon Brown had a very good reason for singing the blues, in fact there are more than one. First it was because he was good at it. If your good at something you should embrace it and make the most out of it. Next, it was because it would give him something to be remembered by. If you die or something happens to you don’t you want to be remembered? Like the saying goes, “Live every day to the fullest”. The last reason is that he needed to care for his family. His singing the blues was feeding his family good, and that made him happy. It gave him something to live for.

The word “Treasure” hasn’t changed to me, because i thought treasure meant something that was so special that nobody else in the world could take that away from you! Mine was my family and they are my treasure because if they weren’t around i don’t know what i would do! Even though they aren’t here with me they will always be in my heart!! That’s what the word treasure means to me.

I was rite about that definition of the word treasure I give did not change, because I said that treasure is something you like so much, and he liked that harmonica he had, that was something important for him and, because he played on a blues band and maybe that is the instrument he played.

The treasure might symbolize to Lemon’s son is that he loves what his dad is doing. There for when his son died that showed that Lemon cared about him and to show him that he always carried the news paper clips and the harmonica. So that he will not forget
how much his dad love doing

My definition of treasure has changed a little bit because in the story the treasure turns out to be a treasure only to him. The treasure would not be as valuable to the people that tried to take his treasure, as it is to him. His treasure means alot to him so my defintion of treasure is money and gold and things like that. Lemon Browns definition is different it is something that he gave to his son that died and he got it back when they sent the letter saying that his son had gotten shot in the war he was sent to, so that makes it a treasure to Lemon.

Now that I’ve read Lemon Brown’s Treasure my definition of treasure has change a little bit because his treasures were a piece if a newspaper and his harmonica. Treasure to me was the person that was close to my heart but that person won’t be around for ever II hope that they will though. I have another treasure that I didn’t write about before which was a picture of my dog in a wolf frame with her first dog tag. Also I have a note from my mom in my binder that I carry around with me evert where I go and I’ve that since 5th grade.

My definition of treasure has not changed. A treasure is something you find valuable or important. I think Lemon does have a good reason to sing the blues because he went through a lot in his life. The treasure symbolized a lot to Lemon because he gave it to his son and his son had it with him when he died in the war. The treasure didn’t symbolize anything to Greg, but while he was with Lemon he learned that everyone has a treasure. Greg also learned that a treasure is something that anyone would value or think it’s important.

Now that we have finished reading Treasure of Lemon Brown I have not changed what I think treasure means. What I thought treasure meant was, that it was something you really like and take super care of. And in the story Lemon Brown’s treasure was a Harmonica and clippings of newspaper That his son Jesse carried around with him in the war he was in but died. So Lemon Brown takes really good care of the Harmonica and the clippings of newspaper because those are the things he will remember about his son. So treasure means that its a special object you really like and take good care of.

215, I liked how you added the harmonica into your answer. It really played a big role in the story. You, in my opinion, very accurately portrayed the way Lemon tresures the harmonica and his son.

The definition of treasure has stayed the same. This is because in the story Lemon Brown treasure was something important to him. So my definition of treasure is some thing important or something that is worth allot. I think Lemon does have a good reason to sing the blues all his life because the blues is about allot of things to him. The treasure symbolize to Lemon’s son because him give him things to remember where he came from. To Lemon it symbolize his son because he died. To Greg it symbolizes what a real treasure is and what is important.

239 I totally agree with you "treasure" is something that you cherish for life no matter what it is including your family. I think that it's sweet that you treasure your family i mean i would too!

I liked how 215 added a part from the story into your piece to relate to Lemon treasures and show how important the treasures you have are. Just like his treasures i'm sure that both of your treasures are very important.

I agree with you, 239, because tresure to a lot of us is our family's. It may not be the only thing but it is definitly included.

235-I agree with what you said because treasure is something that you care about a lot. Treasure can be anything from a million dollars to a blanket or a book or whatever.

#277

My opinion has changed because his treasure was a harmonica and some newspaper clippings. My first thoughts on what treasure was a type of money or fame. I think Lemon Brown does have a reason to sing the blues. Because everything in his life has gone away or died. That would make any one sad. I think his treasure symbolizes that even thought his son was in war he all ways had those things with him. So he knew that his dad was thinking about him.

My definition of treasure has not changed what so ever. Mr. Lemons treasure was what he kept closest to heart, that being the harmonica. The harmonica meant a great deal to Mr. Lemons son and himself. The harmonica represents his blues days when he was famous. The harmonica also the only reminder of his son that he has. He protects it like its the only thing he has. If he tried he can get back into the blues business because he has a sad life.

226-I agree with you because Lemon Brown sings the blues and that is something that is important to him and the harmonica is also important because he gave that to his son, and his son had died in the war so the harmonica is even more special to him now that his son had died and he sang the blues....

270, i agree with you that Lemon's son loved him because he kept the harmonica and the newspaper clippings. It showed how much he cared.

My definition of the word treasure has not change because I think any thing with that can get you some money is a treasure or something you think is spacial. If you have something for a long the price of that item well go up. If you have something spacial you would not sale it because it mean a lot to you.

Hey #285 I feel what you feel about your aunty having cancer in her knee and having to move away. Thats almost the same thing my mom and I keep a note that she wrote me in 5th grade and still have it with me. Have her write you an note and carry it with you in your binder or something.

My definition of treasure hasn’t change memories of Las Vegas, Nevada.
This summer my mom, brother, and I went to Vegas it was amazing in the day time but unbelievable at night. The lights, people, noise it was unlike anything I’ve ever seen . Luckily its not one time thing my mom said we’ll go back a couple of times. So memories are my treasure.

If i had a choice of treasure it would be a million dollars over anything else lesser value than that. Most people don't have a million dollars they treasure what is most valuable to them.

Treasure
Treasure is a different meaning to everyone like Lemon Brown, it can be something you love, or something you desire it can be anything. I think the definition of treasure is different to everyone but the definition of treasure to me is something you love, something you never want to let go of. In the story Lemon Browns treasure was a instrument that he had passed down to his kid and he had taken it to war with him, soon he died and it became Lemon Browns treasure. No the meaning of treasure has not changed to me, everyone treasures something different and in their own way. My treasure would be love.

My answer stayed the same about treasure because what i said that treasure was,was the exact same thing. Treasure is when someone else gives something to another person then they will keep it and treasure it forever until they die because something that you treasure is something that someone gave you and that was really important to them. Also what i think something that you treasure is something like a type of jewel that someone gave to you and you treasure it forever because you might of loved them very much. What i also think that treasure is when you have something that someone treasured and they passed it to you and you keep on passing it on from generation to generation. That is why i think that my answer stayed the same.

I also agree with you #230 that a treasure is something very important to you. Something that you would not just give up. It is something that you will hold on to for the ret of your life. Lemons treasure is very important to him because it showed Lemon that his son cared about him and that ment the world to him.

I was thinking and were all talking about tresures being "things". Tresure can also, if you think about it, be a time. Like the day you tuned 13 or something. As you can see there are man kinds of tresures.

Hey 285 my ex-step dad got me a new hunting rifle and I keep it as a keepsake. It is the only thing I have to remind me of him.
