"On the Sidewalk Bleeding" by Evan Hunter

Think about the following quotes from the story and what they mean:
1. "Had they known that he was Andy or had they simply known that he was a Royal wearing a purple silk jacket? Had they stabbed him, Andy, or had they stabbed the jacket and the title and what good was the title if you were dying?"

2. "Even in his pain, there had been some sort of pride in knowing he was a Royal."

3. "The world didn't know he was Andy. The world didn't know he was alive."

4. "The jacket only had one meaning now, and that was a very simple meaning."

Examine these quotes, and look at the writing you've already done both before and after reading this story. Answer the following prompt:

Explain the thought process Andy goes through about his life and the decisions he has made. What does Andy decide about his life by the end of the story? What did you learn from Andy's experience? Can you relate Andy's experience to your life? How?
