Discussion 3

One person said, "A lot of people thought the kids were going to get hurt, but the reality was that we were born black in Alabama and we were going to get hurt if we didn't do something." What did she mean by this? Did the kids get hurt by protesting and being arrested? What was the outcome of their actions?

What she meant was if they didn’t do something about it the whites would keep doing the same things to them. Like the white people would still bomb the African American citizens. They would also keep killing and hurting them. Did the kids get hurt?Yes I think at some points of the protest the kids may have got hurt. Like when they had the dogs and when they were hosing them down. It is not fun to get hurt but they won. They got hurt because they wanted change and wanted to be equal. The out come was desegregating the most segregated city in the south. In other words the completed their mission.

discussion#3 The kids who got arrested were proud because they were doing what was right and they stood up for they believed in and that was to end segregation and to be able to do what white people could do. Theses people should not have been treated like this and they should have been able to sit where they wanted on the bus and sit in a restaurant and be served. They should be able to live free and not be separated just because of the color of our skin. They should be able to drink out of the same water fountain and not be separated.

I Think What She Means By “ A lot Of People Thought The Kids Were Going To Get Hurt, But The Reality Was That We Were Born Black In Alabama And We Were Going To Get Hurt If We Didn’t Do Something” Is That If They Didn't Stop Segregation Then They Would Keep Getting Hurt Mentally And Emotionally. If They Did Do Something About it They Would Have Freedom. What I Think She Means When She Says “ We Were Born Black In Alabama” Is All Of The White People Only Hurt Them Because Of Their Color And They Can’t Help It If Thy Were Born Black. I Think The Kids Did Get Hurt Mentally And Mostly Emotionally When They Were Protesting And Being Arrested. The Reason Why I Think They Were Mostly Hurt Emotionally is Because It Hurts Them To See All Of The People Of The Same Race Protest For Freedom. Also Being Locked Up In A Jail Is not Where A Child Should Be. They Were Hurt Mentally Because All Of The Police Officers And Fire Fighters Were Beating Them And Treating Them Like Trash. The Outcome Of Their Actions Ended Up A Success. All Of The Black People Got Freedom. The Movement Helped Them Move Towards Equality. I Also Think That They Have Self-confidence. All Of The White People Would Treat Them Like They Were Not Wanted. That Has Changed.

I agree White should not threaten them or have the rights to do that. Also the kids were right to stand up for themselves.I think its dumb that they could not sit on the bus or in a restaurant.

“ A lot of people thought the kids were going to get hurt, but the reality was that we were born black in Alabama and we were going to get hurt if we didn’t do something.” The woman who said that meant if they did not try to help change the problem, things would get worse than they already were. Many of the children who had marched on D day and Double D day were hurt by water hoses and trained dogs to help start the movement. Also they would get beat down by officer’s and other law enforcements. They did the march and got hurt in many ways but kept there heads held high and started a movement. The day the big movement started was May 2, 1963. In the end of the tough fight and hard movement Martin King Jr. and many others had changed the world and made everything so that there would be peace between the whites and the blacks. If the children who marched and started a movement did not do that, maybe until this day the United States of America would be integrated and full of racists people. The big picture here is that the kids of Alabama made a big impact on history and today's life.

Yes the kids got hurt but they stood up for what they believe I agree. Also people would bomb each other that is messed up.They shouldn't be separated by the color of their skin that's a good point.

i agree they were born black in Alabama and they were going to get hurt and its not there fault. they were sick and tired of being treated like they should be ashamed because of there color. but they should feel great about it because its part of who you are and nobody should treat you like that.

As on person said “ A lot of people thought the kids were going to get hurt, but the reality was that we were born black in Alabama and we were going to get hurt if we didn’t do something.” By reading this statement I think the person that had said this was meaning that if the kids didn’t at least try and do something, regardless to if the plan worked or not, segregation would still ruin their life. Also meaning that the white people, the cops and the members of the KKK would still verbally abuse them even if they were just walking down the street or buying something at the store, stating that even if they didn’t do something, they would still get kicked around like trash even though they didn’t deserve it. By doing what the kids were wanting to do in the first, did they get hurt by doing this? If you ask me, I feel that the kids got hurt more verbally then mentally during that march. The cops might have sprayed them with powerful water hoses, and put attack dogs on them, and maybe even hit them up side the head a couple times with blunt objects, they didn’t give up at all. They kept going and coming back for more, the children kept their spirits up and their heads held high. The outcome of all that disaster anyways was that the kids won and the white people just gave up. In later months, John F. Kennedy made a big speech on the total end of segregation, even though it took awhile for the two races to share certain things. All in all, I think it was brave of all the kids to do what they have done to complete a strong passion of theirs.

When She Said “A Lot Of People thought Kids Were Going To Get Hurt, But In Reality Was That We Were Born Black In Alabama, and We Were Going To Get Hurt If We Didn’t Do Something”. I Believe she Means That All The Racism In Alabama Would Have Got Way Worse Than It Already Was. It Would Of Eventually Become Very Bad. Also The Kids Did Get hurt At A point And Time But The kids Were more Than Happy To Do Anything They Can To get Arrested And Fight For Their Race Even If It Meant Serious Injuries. The Outcome to their Madness Was Freedom.

When the lady said “ A lot of people thought the kids were going to get hurt, but the reality was that we were born black in Alabama and we are going to get hurt if we didn’t do anything” she meant that they were going to get hurt anyway if they didn’t do anything. Back then this was true because the heavy racism there was in the south... Especially Alabama. She also said that because most of the parents were scared that their kids were going to get hurt. Which in the end some did but it was beter to get hurt standing up for the right thing. Plus they didn’t get hurt near as bad as they would’ve. The kids actions got the president to help them to end slavery. Also Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. helped to end segregation internationally. In the end not a lot of kids got hurt. All of them went to jail... But didn’t get hurt. All in all the kids really helped to shape the racial divide in the U.S.

1 The lady mint if they did not fight back they would be stuck being treated unequal for who knows how long. The lady mint that all people should stand up and fight for there freedom. 2 Did any kids get hurt by protesting and being arrested. No besides the fear of it all no kids were hurt in the giant act for freedom.Well and yes in the fire hose act some kids were hurt but not badly. 3 What was the outcomes of there actions. The out come was peace and freedom for all Americans blacks whites any color. That lady mint that all African American people need to stand up for there right there freedom. That not just the adults but the kids the elder people the adults every one. When she said we were born black in Alabama and if we don’t do something we will get hurt She mint that the blacks of Alabama need to stand up and fight for freedom.

When some one said “We were born black in Alabama and we were going to get hurt if we didn’t is do something.” They meant if they didn’t stop this know it would only get worse. White people would get more violent. they would know that they could get away with it. it would get so bad people would have to leave. the black people had to do some thing before it got to out of hand. the kids went to help. it toke 8 days. a cople of kids got hurt. they sent dogs after the kids. the spared them with a fire fire hose. In the end the jails were filled and the cops had to stop.

I think she meant that they would get hurt because they would have no rites and they would not get to vote or do things like that. And ya some of the kids got hurt because they got spraid with high pressured water. And the out come of it was that one year later the black people got the same rights as the white people did.

One of the girls said, "A lot of people thought the kids were going to get hurt, but the reality was that we were born black in Alabama and we were going to get hurt if we didn't do something." What I think she meant by this was they had been through enough over the years, and if they just sat there and did nothing things would only get worse. I think she saw that it would only get more violent and people would become more hate filled if no one stood up. The kids did get hurt though. The fire department sprayed them with fire hoses to knock them on the ground. They were being blown down the streets unable to get up. The day after, however, came in there bathing suits and began to mess with the firemen, so that the joke was on them. They also got hurt in jail. The jail ran out of room on the inside so the kids were forced to stay outside. When it began to rain they only were protected by newspaper and the little things there parents were able to throw over the fence. They were outside in the poring rain while the police stayed in there cars an watched. The kids were cold wet an scared. It may not have been physically hitting the kids, but it was still pretty horrible for them to be standing out in the rain like that. We can only imagine what they must have felt like because we have never been put in that situation. The out come of all of this protesting was great though. They were finally free of segregation. They had won, and they were just kids! Who would have known that the kids would make the biggest difference?

The quote she said meant that if the blacks who lived in Birmingham didn’t fight to end segregation, living there would get harder and harder. Did the children get hurt in jail or when protesting? Yes, when the kids were protesting they were shot with water from fire hoses . Also police dogs were told to bite them and 1 kid died from a bite to the neck.
Other then the hoses and dogs no kids got to hurt in jail or while protesting. What was the outcome of their actions? Since there was a lot of children the police couldn’t handle it. The children’s parents were telling MLK how scared they were for their kids. In jail the girls would sing songs to the boys and the boys would answer with a song. One day our President JFK found out about what was really going on in Birmingham and spoke up. On June 11, 1963 JFK said this was the end of segregation. After day three it only took 3 days of discussing to end segregation in Birmingham forever all the kids ended up ending it.

The person that said that they were going to get hurt if didn’t do anything about it, meant that they were getting hurt already and if they didn’t do anything they will get more hurt and might get killed. When all those kids went to jail, their parents were asking Dr. King why did they go to jail, he said that all of them were doing a favor for America, They will be fine. The kids actually did get hurt by Firefighters spraying them with water and cops letting their dogs bite them, but it didn’t stop them. The outcome on their actions was segregation banned in all of Alabama then later that summer banned in all states. Also Martin Luther King Jr. gave his “ I Have a Dream” speech because of what all those kids did in Birmingham.

Topic 3: When the woman said,” A lot of people thought the kids were going to get hurt, but the reality was we were born black in Alabama and we were going to get hurt if we did not do something.” She meant either way they were going to get the crap kicked out of them selves. If they did not do something they still would be getting beat with chairs and fists! A lot of kids still got hurt but not for protesting or being arrested. Those children got hurt for being different. They gained freedom and how could that hurt? What all those kids did was change history and the future of themselves and all people of color. They brought the true meaning to the constitution. Those kids took down the walls of segregation and built a place were all people, what ever their skin color, can unite hands and be free. Those boys and girls made a free country together. Although there is racism still, there is freedom for all.

Discussion #3 (6723)

In the movie, The Children’s March, there was a participant in the march on “D-Day” that stated, “A lot of people thought the kids were going to get hurt, but the reality was that we were born black in Alabama and we were going to gt hurt if we didn’t do something.” I think what his person meant by this was that they were born as African Americans in the most segregated place in the U.S and it was extremely dangerous for black people already. This person was trying to say that if the children didn’t take a stand no one else would’ve and things would have just gotten worse if they did nothing. I don’t think the really got hurt during the march. Although, they were sent to jail, beat, hosed, and there were dogs getting turned on them, they knew they were doing it for a greater purpose... To go to jail. Since they knew the pain inflicted on them physically was nothing compared to what themselves and many others would have gone through if they didn’t decide to march. The feeling of finally being free in the end was enough to make up for every challenge they went through.

The person who said “A lot of people thought the kids were going to be hurt but the reality was that we were born black in Alabama and we were going to get hurt if we didnt do something” ment that they were born in Alabama black. Alabama was one of the most racist places in the world. Many people thought the kids would get hurt f they protested and tried to help, but in reality the kids were just making things better and showing the whites that their human just like them. The kids were also proving that their going to stay strong, that they arnt going to let them walk all over them anymore! Showing them they will no longer be their slaves. Some people were getting attacked by dogs and all of them were getting sprayed with high pressured water from the firemens hoes. So ya some kids did get hurt but to them and many others, it was worth it. When the children were in jail, all of them would just sing all the time. They only got fed a piece of bread with ham. Most kids who got out of jail early wanted to keep going back. The outcome of their actions stopped segregation, made blacks equal to everyone else, caused freedom, and their were no more slaves. If the blacks would have never stood up for their rights, this place we call home, would be way worse then it was in the 60’s. I give all my respect to the African Americans because I would have never had the courage to do half of what they did.

I agree with you. If they didn't stand up for themselves, it would only get worse. The cops had to stop the abuse to the colored people. Kennedy told the cops to stop but they didn't listen to the President. They were too obsessed about hurting colored people.

The lady said, “A lot of people thought the kids were going to get hurt, but the reality was that we were born black in Alabama and we were going to get hurt if we didn't do something.” What she meant by this statement is the whites, KKK and police will keep beating, bombing and excluding the blacks. The brave kids from elementary to high school did get hurt physically but mentally and emotionally they did not get hurt because they were getting freedom. The outcomes of the actions of all the kids were that they wanted freedom and slowly but surely they got their freedom, and segregation was made illegal in Alabama.
