5th Period- Children's March

Pick 2-3 of the options below to respond to in paragraph form:
  • Why couldn't the parents/adults protest? What would happen to them if they did protest?
  • Dr. King said the only way to change what was happening in Birmingham was to fill the jails. Why was this important and effective?
  • One person stated, "a lot of people thought the kids were going to get hurt, but the reality was that we were born black in Alabama and we were going to get hurt if we didn't do something." What did she mean by this?
  • When the kids were arrested, Dr. King told the parents, " Don't worry about your children. They are going to be all right. Don't hold them back if they want to go to jail for they are doing a job for all of America and for all mankind." What job is talking about?
  • What was your reaction of the movie? What did it make you think about? Did you learn something new about that time in history?

This is a graded assignment. You must post an answer and then respond to at least two other students. If a student responds to your post, then you should respond back, and begin a dialogue. Things to remember:
  • You need to write your response in Pages first, and check your post for spelling and grammatical errors. NO TEXT LANGUAGE IS ALLOWED! CAPITALIZE THE BEGINNING OF EVERY SENTENCE! Then copy and paste it into the blog.
  • Don't forget to post your blog number every time. Also, please restate the question in your response.
  • Paragraphs must be a minimum of 5 sentences.  (If you're shooting for an A, 8 sentences).
  • Please respond respectfully to your classmates, not everyone is going to have the same opinions as you
  • Posts are anonymous. Please don't give away your identifying number, and please respect other's privacy.

My reaction of the movie was I thought it was cool. It made me think that it must have sucked for the black people. I learned about what had actually happened and more about it.
The job that MLK was talking about was the right to be free.

The parents couldn’t protest because they would get killed by the police or the KKK. That is why the parents couldn’t protest. She means that even if they don’t do something they will still get hurt because all the white people are picking on the African-Americans. My reaction of the movie was that it’s really sad that people would treat each other like that. I thought it was a little good to learn what happen back in those days. I learned that children were willing to jail for equal rights. That is what i thought about the movie.

The job Dr.King was talking about when he stated that the children would go to jail to do there job for freedom is he meant they would go to jail to prove to the police and the firemen and the KKK that being racist to black people is wrong and that they cant arrest all of the black people that join the march to be arrested. The reason they do it is because they want to try to prove somehow that everyone deserves freedom.

The job MLK JR. is talking about is the right to be free. One of the girls said she was taking her tooth brush with her. And that made me think that they were going to jail. Not the kids but the parents, and it turned out to be the kids.
My reaction to the movie was that it sucked to be a black/colored person. It made me think about how it looked way back in history. Yes, I did because I did not know about kids fighting for freedom.

MLK Jr Said that the parents should let the kids protest because it was the only way that the government would pay attention to them. He wanted the jails to get filled up because then they were going to be forced to listen. The parents and the adults did not want to protest because they were going to be put in jail longer than the kids. They knew that they had to do something if they wanted to have rights. They were tired of being treated bad.

my parents would go and do it. and i would be right behind them.they were big believers in that stuff. they would probably get arrested. And we he said Don't worry about your children. They are going to be all right. Dont hold them back if they want to go to jail for they are doing a job for all of America and for all mankind. he meant that they are doing a good thing for everyone.

What the movie made me think about is how racism is wrong and that still to this very day some people are still racist to black people. One new thing
I learned from watching the movie is that there is a group called the KKK I don't know what it stands for but i know its a group of white people who are racist to black people.

1.My reaction to this movie was that this movie is very historical and it sowed all the things that happened before we were born. It showed how some kids changed the way white people thought back then. I’ve always like this kinda stuff just because it shows the difference between then and now, just imagine back then, there were white schools and black schools, and now we have a black President, a lot has changed.

2.The job the kids were doing was that they had to stand up for all that african americans cause most adults couldn’t or they would die. Another part of that job was that they had to change the U.S or it would even be worse when there older

The reason the adults didn't protest is because they would be killed by police or the KKK. The children protested because they were less likely to be killed.

You are so right about how it must feel to be a colored person and have to got through what they went through. ANd i am not talking about you okay.
Answer this if you went to jail what would you take with you? I mean like the girls in the movie she had taken her tooth brush.

The parents didn’t protest because they could go to jail and get punished worse then there children.
They could go to jail for life if they did.
If they filled up the jails they wouldn’t have any other room to put them in. It made the police and all the whites give up and say there will be no more racism.
The lady meant if they don’t take action there still going to get hurt so they chose to take the chance of getting hurt and because they took the chance of doing so they won.
MLKJ is talking about the kids freeing all the blacks and the whole country would be different in the future which it is. He wanted the parents to inspire them to do this and to make a change.
I thought the movie was good a little sad though. I learned about the klan being powerful i thought they were just a group that was invented in the present. Now I no the klan was and still is very powerful.

923 I think that if people raciest. They should try to get to know the the people that they are raciest against. I think that people should not judge the other people because of their skin color. The stupid thing is that we all bleed the same color and it is dumb we were mint to be different.

The job Martin Luther King Jr was talking about was the children leaving school to protest and they didn’t care if they went to jail they were still going to protest when they were told on the radio to grab their toothbrushes and go to protest. The first day wasn’t that many people that got arrested it was only 973 people. The second day was a little more it was 1,922 people but the third day was a lot more it was 4,163 but the adults should be the ones doing the work not the kids. The kids shouldn’t be the ones going to jail just because they wanted things to change even if their parents didn't want them to go they still did. I think that the kids were really brave to go to the march to change the way things were. So the people wouldn’t be so racist and finally treat them the way they wanted to be treated. I really liked that movie and ii learned a lot of things like what country was the most racist what other people did to put the African Americans in jail the fire fighters used their hoses to get them down and they also used the dogs to bite them and get them all down.

-The job they were talking about was that they are standing up for there rights. Then to have a better future. that was what they were talking about when they said don't worry about your kids let them do there job.

If you try and compare what happen in the early 1960’s you would see that Black People would get treated wrong and people would beat them up. Now Black People are treated equally with respect and manners.

They couldn’t protest because they were black. If they protested they would get put in jail. It was important and affective because that way the government would listen to them.
She meant that if the black people didn’t do anything to let them sit were ever they want in the bus and/or things like that but anyways she said that so they could all have equal rights.
My reaction to the movie was that wow people back then were really mean to black people and that was i think just stupid. This movie made me think about how people are racist to black people today but wow they were even racist back then! I learned that sometimes people don’t do anything and other people are still racist to other people!!

The parents/adults couldn’t protest because they would get hit or kill by the police or KKK maybe would do other stuff to them. So they can prove that they have the same right that the white people had. So they let the kid protest and the police would do nothing to them. If the parent really go to protest the police would just go over and attack the people that protest in there. But they didn’t go.
What Dr. king said the only way going to change this happen in Birmingham is to fill up the jail. That mean when they fill up the jail they couldn’t do nothing and still have other people protest and don’t have any room in the jail. They try to use this way to fight for the freedoms and have the same right. My reaction of the movies was really sad that the people treat people that have different color skin in different way and don’t have the same right and freedom.

I think that the parents couldn't protest is because they did not want to get hurt. They maby thought if they protest they would get hit or even go to jail. If they went to ail they would not be able to see there kids of parents.

My reaction to the movie was that it was very ruff back in 1963 for black people. I think that e are all equal and should be treated the same wether you are black or white. I learned that the kids had a huge roll in what changed the us when the civil rights movement was in forced. the kids wanted to go to jail because it was d day.

Anonymous said...

953
The statement "a lot of people thought the kids were going to get hurt, but the reality was that we were born black in Alabama and we were going to get hurt if we didn't do something.” This means that if the black kids in Alabama did not do something about this now then their future would be the sam not a lowed to go to places or do things. They would get hurt because white people would get out of hand and might do bad things and the blacks would not be a lowed in more places.
